Making his comeback in an epic 40-second knockout victory over Donald Cerrone, Conor McGregor has expressed his interest in fighting in a boxing ring again for his long “2020 season.”
McGregor who was out for quite some time told that he is treating his comeback as a season and part of it is fighting Manny Pacquiao.
“It will be hard to leave the MMA game fully but I think a boxing world title is a great aspiration to have. What a feather in the cap it would be,” the Notorious McGregor said during their press conference for the UFC 246.
The Irishman was confident he can ink a deal with the Filipino champ while also hinting he wanted it to take place at the newly built 60,000-seater Allegiant Stadium that will open in August.
He added that he is also open about his rematch against Floyd Mayweather Jr whom he predicted could happen also this year.
However, if he will fight any of the two living legends in boxing cutting weight will be the major adjustment. McGregor is now at 170 pounds, 23 pounds heavier to the weight limit in Pacquiao’s current division as well as Mayweather.
Pacquiao is also making his return in the ring in April with possible opponents not named Conor McGregor.
Nonetheless, Sean Gibbons, the president of Manny Pacquiao (MP) Promotions said on an interview with the SunSports that the fight could still be put into reality.
“As per a fight with the Senator and Conor McGregor – Conor has mentioned it a few times and if there was interest from the fans the Senator would consider the fight for sure.”
The former simultaneous two-division champion is 0-1 on his professional boxing career.
