Boxing has become so popular in the Philippines simply because of Manny Pacquiao. Whenever you said Philippine boxing, Pacquiao will always be the first name to come in mind.
But the road will always have its end. Pacquiao is already 42 years old this December, so we don’t know how much more he has left. NonitoDonaire Jr. is a former multiple division champ who will be turning 38 in November.
But, we don’t have to worry as the next generation has already emerged and has been making noises lately.
The Philippines will be represented well for the years to come.
These are the fighters who will continue the legacy of Philippine boxing.
First off, we have Johnriel “Quadro Alas” Casimero.
Currently, he is a three-division world champion. He recently defended his WBO Bantamweight belt and is now looking for his biggest fight yet. A fight with Japanese superstar Naoya Inoue.
If ever they make the fight possible, surely it will be a hit all around the globe.
After fighting in different countries for his last eight fights, Casimero is looking ready to be the underdog and the villain in Japan.
Casimero can be considered as the top fighter of his current generation.
He has a record of 30 wins, 24 via knockouts, and four losses.
Next on the list is JerwinAncajas.
“Pretty Boy” Ancajas is the holder of the IBF World Super Flyweight belt.
He is on a roll right now as he tasted his last defeat way back in 2012. From then on, Ancajas only know the word ‘victory.”
He has a record of 32 wins with 22 knockouts, one loss, and two draws.
The 28-year old Filipino has five stars rating on his name given by boxrec while Casimero has 4 ½.
He is also on the top five of the best fighter on their division.
Ancajas has yet to fight this 2020, but his promoters are already working on it as they vow that the Pretty Boy will show no rust on his return.
Lastly, we have Mark Magsayo.
Although he has yet to win a world title belt, many are confident that he will have his first shot at the belt after a few more fights.
Magsayo is only 25 years old and has an unblemished record of 21 wins with 14 knockouts.
What even scarier for the Magnifico is his future. Right now, he is under the care of Freddie Roach, the legendary trainer of Manny Pacquiao.
The excitement it brought to the fans and Magsayo made him even more motivated to learn so he can unleash his through potential.
We may not be able to see another Manny Pacquiao because this generation of boxers will carve their path and made their name in boxing while proudly carrying the Philippine flag.
