Lightweight star and soon to be superstar Ryan Garcia has wished his dream in boxing. He wants to fight Manny Pacquiao.
Garcia who is an avid fan of Manny Pacquiao wishes to be able to fight the only eight-division world champion despite the differences in their division.
Garcia has nothing but praise for the Filipino senator whom he admires.
“Manny, I feel like, is the inspiration that makes you a legend… I mean, he came from dirt and [rose] all the way to a Senator in the Philippines? Legend, that’s what you call a legend,” Garcia said.
The undefeated boxer was present during Pacquiao’s last fight, against Keith Thurman Garcia was seen shouting and cheering after Pacquiao won the fight.
Now, why does he wants to fight his idol?
His idea is simple. He feels like it is the way to pass the torch to him. Meaning the torch of becoming the face of boxing.
He even sampled the Pacquiao-Oscar De la Hoya fight, his current promoter. He said that the fight was De la Hoya passing the torch to Pacquiao. Pacquiao won the fight by far.
When does Garcia want it to happen? Well, it’s after Gervonta Davis.
“It’s my turn,” the 21 wins, no loss Garcia said.
“Maybe after Gervonta (Davis), hopefully… Can we share that ring and please pass that torch to me?” he added.
It can be recalled, that Garcia has been calling out Davis to fight him next instead of facing the WBC lightweight champion Devin Haney.
Garcia and Davis, both undefeated have been exchanging words online.
Going back to Pacquiao. Do you think it has the chance to happen?
Will the admiration be the factor for Pacquiao to consider fighting Garcia?
Well, it can be. But it will also be hard for Pacquiao to go back in the lightweight, especially at his age. He has become comfortable in the welterweight already and going back to lightweight could do more bad than good for the 42-year old fighting senator from the Philippines.
